I had the same understanding and appreciate all developers after all in
the future they might be future contributors to OI and Illumos you have
to start somewhere.

As far as proper topic for OI I would say that such a thread is
important or until we find out exactly what Oracle stance is on
releasing code to the public. 

To those who are debating the qualities of the developers who stayed
during this recession. SHOW US THE CODE lets see your legendary coding
skills.  This is kind of goes with wanting a code dump so we can admire
all the hard-work and get some of those cool features to play around
with.  Or become a contributor if allowable under contract, or NDA or
employer agreement.

Which brings up the next logical question and a little nudge nudge so
with all those who left when can we see them on the Illumos developers
list or for that matter OI list? Maybe we need a wink wink, nudge nudge
and someone who has the proper social skills to get these exceptional
folks to contribute. Or has Oracle left such a bad taste in their mouth
they need time and therapy to even consider working on the code base.
