[OpenIndiana-discuss] real-time syncing two directories across servers (unison ?)

That's interesting. Since the 1.4 drivers things have worked well for us with owncloud. Did have some instability with earlier drivers during POC testing, but with newer drivers we have deployed it and so far so good.

We are using it on a linux host with zfs storage and mac clients.

We don't have a lot of concurrent editors on shared files so that may be why it has worked out for us. I will keep an eye on it though. Thanks for the warning.

I personally, and two other IT guys that I've spoken with from different companies, have been burned by placing any trust in owncloud. In fact, I'm still subscribed to their mailing list, and at least once a day, new people write in, asking for help, because it either fails to sync files it should sync, or some data seems to be lost. My advice: Steer clear.

In Microsoft, what you're looking for is called DFS. I don't know any good linux/unix based bidirectional tools such as requested, but if you start searching for alternatives to DFS (or if you simply pay MS and deploy DFS) then you have an answer, and hopefully can find some FOSS solution out there.
