http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1448/gbacb.html#gbbht  - especially the 'ACL Inheritance' section, where the f,d,i,n letters are specified. 

I usually manage the ZFS properties from a Windows client if smb is activated for a zfs share - GUI makes it nicer… But works on command line as well.

Settings rights & inheritance on ZFS can be a pain - but if it does what it should do, its quite nice.
