If you are on OI 151a7 or a9, you can install the kernel
build approved gcc 4.4.4 by doing 'pkg install illumos-gcc'.
For actual kernel build you also need 'astdev' and 'onbld'.
For a "normal" newer gcc look in oi-sfe <http://pkg.openindiana.org/sfe/>
for 'gcc-46', which installs in /usr/gcc/ (see also oi-sfe-enc
<http://pkg.openindiana.org/sfe-encumbered/> for additional packages).
If you choose hipster, none of the above is directly applicable,
but the experts for hipster should help you.
