Yes, I've tried both `-Q' and `-q', with the same extraneous
characters appearing.

Ah, that worked. Things that I paste in look normal with emacs
running within an xterm. That may be a workaround for me. I was
thinking of reverting to emacs-24 until they fix this bug.
