That's at least interesting. I thought the B120 was HP specific without
any support
for illumos. I would not rely on it, though.

You don't need dev experience in order to start helping on Hipster's
development.
The development is split between illumos and OI userland (somehow
similar to the BSD's).
As we are very few maintainers for OI userland another big plus in my
eyes is that you
can become a maintainer very easily. Just start with cloning the repo
(https://github.com/OpenIndiana/oi-userland.git),
get familiar with the build system and ipkg and start enhancing (e.g.
updating) one or more packages.
Send some PR's and when you have proven to understand the process and
the tools you'll get an invitation to
become a maintainer :-). There is probably no other OS (despite creating
your own) where it is that easy.
