Apparently, in /var/pkg/publisher/* there are manifests stored. They
are at various versions and even manifests for packages one do not have
installed are stored there.

I did a quick peek but I failed to find any documentation about
/var/pkg/publisher/* content so it is unclear what manifests are
expected to be there, but I'd expect only manifests for packages and
versions that are installed on the system are there.

In any case, somebody should try to find (either documentation or in pkg
sources) what is supposed to be there. If it is clear there are some
files leaking then we can start to look how to fix that.

Any idea how it works on OmniOS?
