Hello Russell,

Do not run Virtualbox as user root.

Before you start VirtualBox, start VBoxSVC in a terminal and then try to start Virtualbox guest. Check if there some helpfull output of VBoxSVC in the terminal:


$ QT_DEBUG_PLUGINS=1 /opt/VirtualBox/amd64/VBox SVC
