Hi Atiq

It got a bit further since the last time we at least know the components we would need to implement in kernel for the drivers to use.
Linux added some subsystems. 

The Funding is publicly viewable on 
https://opencollective.org/openindiana and is purely used to handle the Hosting costs for the Machines that build the packages and run the CI and basically everything.
As for financing development, we could manage to bring some developers together with people using illumos and some code landed upstream from that. 
The general financing that we have is enough for the machines and maybe a bit of Merch.
We have people that help finance merch. Last on FrosCon in Bonn for example.

For GPU work it’s not a funding constraint more a the whole World just changed and people need to adapt thing. 
And at the moment OIDA funds would not help here.
