Josef - Notion provides git cloning support as well as tarballs through SourceForge.

Most ad-hoc or professional open source development provides either the latest snapshots through popular VCS/CMS or officially released tarballs. Using a non-popular VCS/CMS only hinders open-source development if distributions don't provide the clients to access the VCS or the developers don't have the clients for certain platforms. But, that is another subject.

Not all software is conveniently tarred up on the internet.  Allow fetching of a specific rev from these VCSes.
