I run 5.2.12 on 2017.10 without significant problems. USB and CDROM access is unreliable, so I use images on disk. It's a bit of a nuisance, but it lets me use the scanner in the Brother 3 in 1 without a lot of hassle and I can run various fairly lightweight electronic design programs which are Windows only.
For heavy stuff like the Xilinx Vivado FPGA tools I had to go back to using a physical machine.
I had VBox crash 2019.04 when I installed them for a friend a few weeks ago. I did not pursue the matter as I was visiting from out of town and didn't have time. VBox support is very Windows centric, so it's hard to find anyone there that knows anything at all about OI.
I was favorably impressed by the Hipster install *except* for the stupid business of expiring the root password that you just set the first time you login as root. That resulted in the password being reset to something else which I could not remember when I was asked on the phone a couple of days ago when my friend called just as he was getting ready to drive from Denver to Ontario.

Hello All,
I thought that I may have recently saw some message on the OI mailing list
about VirtualBox but cannot locate that message.
With that in mind, I was wondering if VirtualBox works on OI Hipster?
Also, if it does then what about the functionality like CDROM and USB
access, as well a file sharing to map a directory from the host?
Just wondering the state of things.
Thanks,
Lonnie
